Treasure is the proper word.

These are all from Harry Smith's original liner notes for his Anthology of American Folk Music. All of the songs in the ballads section have a one or two sentence headline synopsis in addition to the historical notes. He compiled the booklet himself and a lot of the images are clippings from music catalogs and other contemporary periodicals (1920s-1930s).

I'm visiting my parents this week and while I'm here and still have access to their scanner I plan to get some more selections up. The booklet is almost as much fun as the recordings themselves.
